Meet Invisible Girl

When I was in eighth grade I was an Invisible Girl. No cape or fancy emblem, but my super hero power allowed me to blend in no matter how much I tried to stand out. And I really wanted to stand out.

Eventually I learned how to accomplish selected visibility, but I never lost my super hero powers.  Like most shy people, I have an innate ability to be the wall and not the wallpaper, or the furniture but not the centerpiece.

Think of all those things you take for granted, those things that you forget that are there. Being Invisible Girl is a “magic eye” skill, where if you stay still long enough and stare hard enough, an extraordinary view of ordinary life appears. Invisible Girl easily maneuvers between the lines, occupying the space between predictability and absurdity, celebrity and obscurity, and regularly goes where no shy girl has gone before. Or so I thought.

What I've discovered, is shy girls, shy people, are an incredibly creative, vibrant breed.  Our observations and contributions are cause for celebration, not ridicule. So if you have a story to tell or are looking for a tribe that is about being heard (shy or fearless alike), join me. Just remember, Invisible Girl is best seen when you are not looking.
